a) Alexander Phimister Proctor (1860-1950). Pony Express - 50th Anniversary casting, 16" diameter. Commissioned in 1910 by Wells Fargo & Co.
b) Marian Brackenridge (1903-1999). National Pony Express Centennial Association 1860-61 / 1960-61. 17" diameter. Marked verso: "FRANK LA HAYE METAL WORKS. / SONOMA CALIFORNIA / (c)1988 / 0011".
Intended as historical markers, both plaques are unused and have never been mounted. Both are ½” thick and weigh approximately 18 pounds each.

In May of 1982, President Reagan presented, as an official Gift of State, Jackson’s “Pony Express II," to the President of Brazil on the occasion of the Brazilian President’s visit to Washington, D.C. Reagan was a fan of the artist and often gave Jackson’s work as gifts to foreign dignitaries.

A 19th Century Carved Wood Calliope Figure

Fabulous, circa 1880s, American mechanical cowgirl styled figure. She is most likely a circus or Wild West wagon calliope. The movable bellows-operated arm beats a cymbal or drum. A great and attractive piece of Americana, with original polychrome paint. The patina is truly beautiful and compliments the quality of the carving. Added stand for display is removable. Cowgirl figure is 25" tall; with stand 40" tall overall.

Lot of two pair of children’s moccasins. a) The toes are covered in faceted, translucent pale blue beads. Lanes of white-heart reds, faceted metal and cobalt beads circle the shoe and wrap slightly under the soles. 4 1/2" long. b) A cross design on the toes, in colors of pea green, white-heart red and two shades of blue. The green beads also decorate the bottom seam, as well as the heel in diagonal rows of three. 4 1/2" long.

Tobacco bag with large beaded panels, designs differing from one side to the other. Beads in colors of white, cobalt, white-heart red and green. Quill wrapped slats are attached between the bag and the long fringe. Losses to the quillwork reveal brightly painted parfleche. 19" x 7 1/4" bag, with 6" slats and 13" long fringe.

The body is decorated with long quill-wrapped tassels with tin-cones at the bottom, and feathers at the top. Thick, even fringe suspended from the lower edge. 16 1/2" x 7 1/2" bag, with an additional 8" of fringe attached at the bottom.

Large Osage Beaded Flat Bag

Description

Osage beaded flat bag with yellow-ochred hide. Fully beaded front with a geometric design. The flap is also decorated with beadwork that spills over slightly to the back. Beads are white, pale blue, cobalt, white-heart red, yellow and green. The bag is 11 1/2" long, with a width tapering from 8" to 10 3/4". 6 1/2" of twisted fringe is attached to the bottom. Included with the bag is a signed letter detailing its family history: the bag was gifted to Fern Weidman (as a child) of Wichita, Kansas, by the famous Osage Chief Bacon Rind (Wah-she-hah); it has remained in the family until now. Also included is a postcard photo of the Chief, dated 1915.

Condition: losses to the fringe, beadwork is excellent with some missing beads along the trim of the flap.

Fully beaded man's vest with intricate stylized teepee designs throughout. Beaded in colors of red, white, three shades of blue, yellow, rose and green. A striking vest with the white field framed entirely by a lane of red beads. Fringe is attached at the bottom, and across the top of the arm holes. Lined with red cotton cloth. 23" tall x 21" wide, circa 1900.
