Description
John Wayne's Frock Coat from The Shootist. Film-used frock coat worn by John Wayne in his final movie, "The Shootist" (Paramount Pictures, 1976). Wayne starred as J.B. Books, a dying cowboy searching for ways to die quickly without suffering. The frock coat was Brooks's "formal" coat, which he was wearing in the iconic final shootout scene. Complete with original Western Costume Co. label.
One of only three coats made for the film, this is a charcoal/black wool, single-breasted frock coat, marked size 50. Black file satin lapel inserts, two flap pockets at outsides and two breast pockets inside the coat. It has three buttons down the front, and each cuff has three small buttons on each sleeve. There are also two buttons at rear of waistband (typical frock coat styling). The coat is completely lined in black satin material. Sleeves are also lined. Left sleeve lining has come undone for about 6-7 inches, but is all there, easily repaired, and in excellent shape. Lining in coat tail (left rear side) has also come undone, but is easily repaired and has no effect on overall appearance or condition of coat or material. In right breast pocket is a sewn-in "Western Costume Co., Hollywood" white satin-type label with John Wayne's name typed in, along with chest size "50" and sleeve "18 1/2". Overall, the coat is in excellent condition, and, as the coat worn in John Wayne's final shootout, is a truly iconic piece of Western film and John Wayne memorabilia.
